Hampton National Historic Site near Baltimore

Thomas Stone National Historic Site at St. Charles
The Thomas Stone National Historic Site is located near the town of St. Charles in southern Maryland. The former property and the residential buildings of Thomas Stone will be preserved in the area of ​​approx. 1.45 km². Plantation owner Thomas Stone, as a Maryland MP, was one of the 56 signatories to the Declaration of Independence and is thus considered one of the founding fathers of the United States. Thomas Stone National Historic Site was established in 1978. Until 1936 the area was owned by the Stone family. The property was acquired in 1770 and the first buildings were erected in 1771. The property has also been a National Historic Landmark since 1971.

Maryland State House in Annapolis
The Maryland State House in the city of Annapolis is the seat of the Maryland Parliament. The Maryland State House was built from 1772 until its final completion in 1779. The Maryland State House was built in the style of Georgian architecture. This makes the Maryland State House the oldest continuously used state house in the entire United States. The Maryland State House is steeped in history. The Continental Congress met here from November 26, 1783 to June 3, 1784, making the Maryland State House the US Capitol at that time. On April 14, 1784, the Second Treaty of Paris was signed here, ending the American War of Independence. But there were already two predecessors on the site of the current state house. The current state house has another special feature with its rotunda, as it is made of wood, but without the use of nails. There is a lightning rod by Benjamin Franklin on the top. The Maryland State House has been a National Historic Landmark since 1960.
