History
Burundi was a German protectorate from 1903 to 1916. After German rule, Belgium administered the territory until its independence in 1962. Burundi's political life is dominated by a double issue: on the one hand, the country's need for democratization and modernizing socio-economic structures; on the other, the problem of antagonism that opposes Tutsis and Hutus in the seizure of power.
